Thought we'd take a little hike this morning, two miles up Siphon Draw behind the campground. What we didn't know was that there was about 2400 feet (more or less) altitude gain in those miles. That slowed us down, but the view from the top of Flatiron was spectacular. The hike was challenging, to say the least, and there were quite interesting sections of differing trail types. There were fantastic views both and and down the canyon, and from the top-spectacular!

Flatiron is the flat peak about in the middle; the draw goes around to the right of the first stone block on the left. |

One section of the trail had this kind of rock, much steeper than the picture looks. |

Looking down the draw, back toward Phoenix. |

View from the top of the draw. Flatiron Mt. is to the left, beyond the photo. |

Coming back down. |
We spent eight hours on the trail, taking it slow, but not easy. Lots of effort went into the up, and lots of caution into the down. What lovely day!
